The City of Winchester Trust was set up in 1957 after the public failed to stop the demolition of the Brooks area of the City. Our main aim today is to preserve the distinctive and evolving character of the city, by seeking to influence the decisions of both City and County Councils and the proposals of developers.

The City of Winchester represents a pageant of English history through its landscape, streets and buildings.  To maintain and preserve this valued heritage is an increasing challenge.  The Trust's vision is to reconcile the sometimes competing objectives of conserving an historic city in its landscape while maintaining it as an attractive, accessible and economically viable place.
