Archives - Trust Annual Report 1997

The first year of the formation of the current Archive Group has passed fast. Our first publication has been a success. In June 1997 the Mayor of Winchester launched "Memoirs of a Winchester Working Man - Driving Steam Engines". At a sale price of 2-99 this has sold well. The script was compiled and donated by John Brimfield, from his recording on tape of a conversation with Mr Percy Crockford speaking of a lifetime of memories of working with steam-driven lorries. Mr Crockford is now 93 years old.

Our continued thanks again go to John Brimfield who has rescued 2000 negatives, part of the life work of Bob Sollars. Bob Sollars was a freelance photographer, and many of these photographs were originally printed in the Hampshire Chronicle. The care and recording of these negatives, and also other prints donated throughout the year has been the project of Ernest Hutchinson, working long hours in the Heritage Centre. There remains much work to do to complete this work.
